Priyanka Chopra Jonas was born on July 18, 1982 in Jamshedpur Bihar (now Jharkhand) to Ashok and Madhu Chopra both of whom served as doctors in the Indian Army. Her mother a Bihari Magahi Hindu from Jharkhand was the eldest daughter of Dr. Manohar Kishan Akhouri a former Congress leader and Madhu Jyotsna Akhouri a former member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Her maternal grandmother originally named Mary John was a Malayalee Jacobite Syrian Christian from the Kavalappara Nair family in Kerala. Priyanka has a younger brother  Siddharth who is seven years younger than her and is related to Bollywood actresses Parineeti Chopra  Meera Chopra and Mannara Chopra who are her cousins.

When Priyanka Chopra Jonas  family saw an advertisement for the Femina Miss India contest and submitted her pictures her career took off. After placing first runner up in the Miss India 2000 pageant, she went on to compete in the Miss World pageant that same year. After winning the title she was cast in four Indian films opening opportunities for her in the film industry.

She was the first South Asian to lead an American network drama playing Alex Parrish in the ABC thriller series Quantico from 2015 to 2018. She started her own production business Purple Pebble Pictures  in 2015 and has since produced a number of films  including the Hindi biography The Sky Is Pink (2019)  in which she also featured and the Marathi films Ventilator (2016) and Paani (2019).
